A 3-days-long tourist trip by canoes and ferries on the River of Dubysa.
Dubysa is one of the most beautiful rivers of Lithuania which starts in Šiauliai district beside the Lake of Rėkyva. It flows on the amazing valley through 3 regional parks: Kurtuvėnai, Dubysa and Panemunė. There are many mounds on the shores of the River. Dubysa flows into the biggest river of Lithuania – Nemunas beside Seredžius.
Friday. We will come and settle down in a homestead. The authentic and old homestead which was renewed this year is located in the amazing valley of Dubysa. It would be difficult to find a better place for the recreation in nature: the valley located in the wooded side gives off serenity and a good aura. A stony weir of Maslauskiškiai mill which is located above the homestead promises an interesting trip by canoes and ferries. A joint dinner together with the bathhouse amenity will be arranged in the evening under our old tradition. A rare guest refuses to try a rural bathhouse which is pleasant not only to grill, but also to lambaste by bathing birch-rods.
Saturday. A cup of coffee and canoes say good morning to you. A sailing route will start from the homestead downstream to the sand quarry of Ariogala. A small river of Lelykas flows into Dubysa 2 km away, Bertygala town is on the hill. Pakalniškiai is on the left 2 more km away. If you sail downstream you will see Vandžiai on the left side and Kalniškiai on the right one 7 km away. A huge mound of Barsukalnis is located below the confluence of a small river of Upytė. A sand quarry of Ariogala will be reached after 6 km. We will finish on the left side of it. The water is very clean and there are a lot of various kinds of fish which attract fishermen in this quarry. After all this we will come back to the homestead.
We would spend an evening in a cosy terrace. There is a beautiful field and a playing ground around the homestead. A rural bathhouse will invite us to grill in the evening again. After it we will be able to cool down right in the River of Dubysa.
Sunday. We will leave to the upper reaches of Dubysa by buses. From there we will sail to the homestead. Then we will start in Kušleikiai in a very nice river shore. Pasandravys – a native land of poet Jonas Mačiulis (Maironis) – is 3 km away the river. Later we will come to Bralinskai. There are a lot of shoals, brash and sudden turns in the river. A small river of Luknė flows into Dubysa from the left side after 6 km. From this place 7 km will remain till the finish of the trip – till the homestead. We will get some adrenalin by going down on the weir of Maslauskiškiai mill before reaching the homestead. It is a beautiful place for taking a common picture of all the participants of the trip.
You can choose a length of the Saturday’s sailing between 17 km or 20 km.
You can choose a length of the Sunday’s sailing between 15 km or 18 km.
